Dela E. Buckles, born July 10th, 1886, departed January 28th, 1888. Age one year, six months and eighteen days.
O'er the coffin I knelt in prayer,
I saw her lovely face,
Her eyes were closed in sleep so sweet
Could this be death's embrace?I caught the hand, 'twas cold, so cold,
I touched her brow so fair.
I forward bent and kissed her cheek,
Then thought she is not there. An angel came and took her,
And left this form of clay.
The soul to heaven, gone to live,
We'll meet it there some day.We did not see the angel.
The gate we could not see,
But just beyond the river
My darling waits for me.This lovely bud so young, so fair,
Called hence by early doom,
Just came to show how sweet a flower
In paradise would bloom. There, in the shepherd's bosom,
White as the drifted snow.
Is the little lamb we missed, one morn,
From the household flock below.Mrs. C. F. _.
