Wayne Burkhall's Ship Strikes a Mine

An United Press dispatch this week revealed that last Sunday the United States destroyer, Ernest G. Small, struck an enemy mine in the Korean area and nine navy men were killed. Eighteen others were injured.

However, the ship was able to proceed to its destination at Sasabo, Japan. A radio cast of the ship being struck by a mine was heard by some Comanche county residents was was of special interest as Fireman apprentice Wayne Burkhall, son of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Burkhall of Coldwater, is a member of the ship's crew.

No word has been received here of Wayne being injured. He enlisted in the Navy last January.
