We are pained to chronicle the death of E. H. Burton, who died at his residence in this city, on Wednesday morning, Jan. 5th, at 2 o'clock. Mr. Burton came to Kansas about two years ago and settled on Koller Flats, where he lived with his family until last fall, when he moved to this place. He had been suffering with the dread disease, consumption, for some time until the date above stated when he passed away. Mr. Burton was one of our most highly respected citizens, and won the confidence of all he came in contact with. His remains were interred in the Avilla cemetery, yesterday morning, and was witnessed by a large concourse of friends and relation. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Hays. The Democrat extends to his bereaved family its heart felt sympathy -- Avilla Democrat.Several parties from Avilla were in the city Monday, and in speaking of Mr. Burton, said that someone present at the preparing of the corpse, took from the deceased's trunk $12, in money, and tickets to the amount of $4., payable in goods at Mr. Sheldon's store. They also informed us that they knew who the villainous thief was and that they intended to give him the extent of the law, unless he settled the matter up in very short order.
