Obituary.

Marjorie Esther Crowe was the fourth child of Oscar and Addie Gaylord. She was born September 19, 1891 in Comanche county, near Comanche City. The family resided here until the opening of the Cherokee Strip in Oklahoma. The men of the family staked out a claim near Chester, Okla., and the family traveled to their new home by covered wagon. At the death of their mother Marjorie lived with relatives in Illinois for six years. At the death of her grandmother she moved to Protection. She attended high school and later taught in the rural schools of Comanche county. In 1915, she was married to Howard R. Burnette of Wilmore. They resided on a farm in eastern Comanche county where three children were born; Howard R. Burnette, Addie Ellen and William Burke.

In 1930 Marjorie returned to teaching. In 1942 she moved to Coldwater. She was appointed County Superintendent of Schools in 1943 and was elected to serve a second term.

She was united in marriage to Dan Crowe on July 14, 1946. In 1944 her son, Howard, who was a Navy pilot, was reported missing in action. Marjorie was a member of the United Methodist church, the Women's Society of Christian Service, Civic Club, the New Eden Farm Bureau, American Legion Auxiliary and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, and she was a lifetime member of Delta Kappa Gamma, a professional teachers sorority. As health would permit, Marjorie was a member of the Wednesday Morning Prayer Group of the United Methodist church.

Those she leaves to mourn her passing are her devoted husband Dan, her daughter, Mrs. Addie Ellen Thomison, Wichita, her son, Burke Burnette of Wilmore, a sister, Mrs. Jenne Cramer, El Centro, Calif., a brother, Murray Gaylord, Port Townsend, Wash., and two grandchildren as well as a large number of dear, devoted friends.
