Graduates from Coldwater High School, 1892 - 1969., The Western Star, October 16, 1969.
The Western Star, June 2, 2005.
For the past eight months, members of the Coldwater High School Class of 1955 have been actively planning their September return to their roots, Coldwater. Some will be traveling a considerable distance back to their hometown. Others will already be right there in town to join them.
No matter, the members of that class want to join with other CHS alumni to bring something back home. They've organized a fund-raiser which will begin in June, and which has been under written by both Coldwater banks.
The money is to be given exclusively to the construction of a shelter at the city park on the site of the old high school, and toward purchase of equipment for Pioneer Lodge. The fundraiser will begin with a "silent auction", one in which bidders will be able to register their bids in each bank lobby.
Items to be auctioned include framed maps of Comanche County, wine from California, gift certificates, bound historical texts about the County, some sports equipment, and gift certificates for use at some of the Coldwater businesses. Other gift certificates will follow throughout the summer months. The alumni will depend upon the banks, the city and county governments, and the businesses to help publicize the auction, as well as by word of mouth.
Flyers will be distributed by the banks and will also be available at the post office. Additionally, the alumni feel that their own contributions might attract gifts and used house goods, which can be sold via the local websites. Watch for more announcements, especially for the school-sponsored computer workshops, taught by Patsy Jellison.
All bidding, whether for items on the web, or on display in the bank lobbies, will be done in the bank lobbies.
