Delbert Dale

COLDWATER BOY DIES IN ACCIDENTAL SHOOTING

Delbert Dale, 13 year old twin son of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Dale of Coldwater, met almost instant death Sunday afternoon when a gun with which he had been hunting frogs was accidentally discharged, the bullet entering the top of his head. He was alone at the time the accident occurred, making it impossible to determine exactly just what happened. It is thought, however, that he had been shooting frogs from a bridge near town and stopped to climb under the rail, thus setting off the gun unintentionally.

He is survived by his parents, two sisters, Mrs. Charlie Waterbury of Wichita and Mrs. Lennis Herd of Coldwater and two brothers, ____ (Richard?) of Greensburg and his twin brother, Donald; also by a number of other relatives in the county.

Delbert was keenly interested in a variety of community activities, including church and school activities, the Coldwater high school band and Boy Scouts. He was especially interested in dramatics at school and found time for intensive practice with the band, in which he played the cornet. He was buried in his high school uniform. Probably his greatest interest, however, was in aeronautics. He had constructed probably, more than fifty airplane models of various sizes.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Presbyterian Church in Coldwater followed by interment in the Coldwater cemetery. The band attended in a body and followed the casket to the cemetery.
