A hearing was held on last Saturday to determine as to the sanity of Carl C. Davis, who for several months has been acting rather queerly. Drs. F. L. Holcomb and E. M. Ireland and Probate Judge M. M. Cosby composed the board, and, after a careful investigation, which was conducted by County Attorney C. E. Baker, the Board pronounced Davis of unsound mind, and on Sunday Sheriff L. D. Haydock started with him for Topeka, where the unfortunate young man was placed in the state hospital located near that city.

Davis came to this county from Alabama about five years ago and worked on a farm. He was a hard working and industrious young man, and a year or so ago had saved and put on deposit in a bank about $800, but after making a trip back to Alabama and through Oklahoma and Texas, he and his brother, Elton, went to Logan-co., Kansas, where they worked on a ranch owned by J. C. Lewis and Moffett-Bros. & Andrews.

Several months ago Carl showed signs of failing mentally. He imagined that he was an agent for an insurance company and began to go about trying to negotiate the purchase of automobiles, tractors, clothing and various other articles, and in a few cases giving his checks, most of which were turned down.

It was brought out in the hearing Saturday that the young man's father had been an epileptic. It is a case which excites the sympathy of all, and it is hoped that a few months in the hospital will be the means of restoring the afflicted young man to normal health and reason. He is about 22 years of age.
