The Western Star, November 12, 1884.

A MYSTERIOUS DEATH.

Foul Play Suspected.

Some parties driving a bunch of cattle Thursday of last week, discovered the decomposed remains of a man with a bullet hole through his head on Kiowa creek, 9 miles west and 2 miles north of Coldwater. The body was in an advanced state of decay, and it was reckoned that he had been dead about six weeks. Upon examination no clue to his identity could be found -- all that was discovered on his person besides his clothing, was a No. 32 cartridge. He wore a light beard, inclined to be sandy and had light brown hair. He was dressed in blue denim pants and overshirt, and cottonade underclothes pants 34 waist by 32 length; wore boots No. 9. It is reported that Mr. Russell, living in that vicinity, heard shots fired in the neighborhood of where the dead man was found, about 6 weeks ago, and shortly after met three men and questioned them as to what they were shooting at and they replied at antelope.

The remains were buried on the spot by the cattle men.

This mysterious affair is some what similar to the Cloud murder discovered some weeks ago between here and Sun City.
