The Protection Post, August 6, 1981.

Elmer Edmonston

Elmer Jesse Edmonston, 77, Ashland, died Friday morning, July 31, 1981 at the Ashland District Hospital.

Elmer, son of Orley and Edna (Snell) Edmonston was born January 22, 1904 in Kiowa County, later moving to Comanche County where he grew up on the family farm 5 miles north of Protection.

He was married to Lois Hunter of Manhattan, Kansas in 1925. She preceded him in death.

He moved to Halstead, Kansas in 1942 where he lived for 29 years. He moved into Elm Grove Apartments, a retirement home at Ashland, in October of 1979. He was a member of the Methodist Church and of Modern Woodsmen of America.

Elmer was an avid sportsman and loved camping, hunting and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother and his sister, Iva.

Survivors are three brothers, Granville of Sedgwick, Harold and Paul of Protection and five nieces and four nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday, August 3, 1981, at 10:30 AM at the Hatfield-Prusa Chapel in Coldwater, Kansas with Bro. Philip G. Sahley, minister of First Christian Church in Protection, in charge of service. Music provided by Mrs. Doris Anne Leeper and Mrs. Mona Allender singing "How Great Thou Art" and "In the Garden.' Organist was Mrs. Judy Kerstetter.

Pallbearers were Wade Harmon, Robert Sangster, Kenneth Webb, Howard Tobias, Melvin McLaughlin, and Warren Lee Moore.

Interment was in Protection Cemetery, Protection, Kansas.

Attending the funeral from out of town were: Royce Barber, Dalhart, Texas, Mrs. Zelma Rust of Elkhart, Mrs. Edith Barber, Lakin, Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Bumgarner and Mr. and Mrs. Philip Trease, Starla and Corey of Dodge City, Mr. and Mrs. Granville Edmonston and Loyal Edmonston of Sedgwick, Mrs. Kathy Flory of Wichita, Mrs. Clover Roller, Coldwater, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Swanson and Melanie, Mrs. Doris Knapp and Mrs. Hazel Shopshire of Ashland, Don Edmonston, Greensburg.
