Death Comes to Mrs. Emma Emerson

Following an illness of several weeks Mrs. Emma Emerson passed away on Sunday, September 4, 1960, in the Hardtner Hospital in Hardtner, Kansas. Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 6, 1960 at 3:00 p.m. in the Methodist church in Coldwater with Rev. Dean W. Dryden officiating.

Walter Smith sang "Nearer My God to Thee" and "Beyond the Sunset" accompanied at the organ by Donald Booth.

Active pallbearers were Clarence Gillet, Raymond Shultz, Clarence Bardot, Paul Kropf, Charles Sanders and Jim Herrington. Honorary pallbearers were Roy Lytle, Victor Gates, Albert Oller, Gardiner Lyon, L. B. Sailor and Henry Waller.

Interment was in the Crown Hill Cemetery near Coldwater, Kansas.

Obituary

Emma Hamling Emerson, daughter of August and Katy Hamling, was born April 9, 1884, at Saginaw, Michigan, and departed this life September 4, 1960, at the age of 76 years, 4 months and 26 days at the Achbenbach Memorial Hospital in Hardtner, Kansas.

Mrs. Emerson was united in marriage with Emery T. Lee in Saginaw, Michigan, Oct. 8, 1906. To this union three children were born. Mr. and Mrs. Lee proved out a homestead claim in Union County, New Mexico, and then moved to Comanche county in 1911. Mr. Lee preceded her in death in 1913.

May 17, 1916, she was united in marriage with Lewis Alonza Emerson in Dalhart, Texas. To this union three sons were born. Mr. Emerson, preceded her in death August 14, 1943.

Mrs. Emerson was a member of the Methodist church and was a faithful wife and devoted mother.

She leaves to mourn her passing her daughter, Mrs. Edna Pitts, Long Beach, Calif.; five sons, Norman Lee, Coldwater, Earl Lee, Santa Clara, California, Lonnie Emerson, Kingman, Kans., Harold Emerson, Coldwater, and Cal Emerson, Pratt, Kansas; three sisters, Mary Portner, Agnes Green and Frances Felton; four brothers, Pete, Walter, August, and Joseph Hamling, all of Saginaw, Mich.; also 14 grandchildren and four great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
