Rema Mary Filson

Rema Mary Filson, 87, died Tuesday, April 16, 2002, at the Comanche County Hospital in Coldwater, Ks. Born October 8, 1914, at Altamont, Ks., the daughter of Benjamin Franklin and Clara (Shepherd) Davidson, she was a homemaker and also helped her husband, Ben, in their business, Filson Manufacturing.

She was a long time resident of Protection, Ks., moving there on August 15, 1944 from Bartlett, Ks. She attended country school and graduated from Altamont High School. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Protection, Kansas. Other memberships include: Women's Missionary Group; Charter member of Twin Hills H.D.U.; Rebeccah Lodge; Royal Neighbors; and she was a charter member of Protection Valley Manor Board of Directors, all of Protection, Ks. She was very active in many other community projects. On March 12, 1933, she married Ben Filson at Mound Valley, Ks. He preceded her in death on July 6, 1971.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son: Larry Filson; one son-in-law: Bill Monroe; two brothers: Alva Davidson and Orley Davidson; and three sisters: Ethel Roseberry, Violet Barnett, and Lo Ena Newell.

Survivors include one son: Gary Filson and his wife Charlotte of Protection, Ks.; two daughters: Marlene Webb and her husband Fred of Protection, Ks. and Sondra Monroe of Dallas, Tx.; one daughter-in-law: Dorothy Filson of Wichita, Ks.; two sisters: Eva Walker of St. Paul, Ks. and Berniece Smith of Topeka, Ks.; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service is at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 19, 2002, at the First Christian Church in Protection, Ks., with Rev. Raymond Unruh presiding. Burial will follow the funeral service at Protection Cemetery, Protection, Ks.
