Sunday night a prairie fire on the Lightner ranch burned off about a thousand acres of fine grass and meadow land. The cause of the fire is supposed to be lightning. The flames were first noticed by the ranch force about eight thirty in the evening and were well advanced at that time. They soon found that they would not be able to control the fire and sent out a general call for help which was responded to by all the neighbors and several auto loads from town lead by B. U. Towner went to the scene and assisted in fighting the fire. It was not brought under control until about daylight when it was headed into some short buffalo grass and extinguished. This is the worst prairie fire that this section has experienced for many years and was visible for many miles in all directions.
