The Wilmore News, May 15, 1931.

DEATH OF BARNEY FISHER

The entire community was saddened on Tuesday when the news came that Barney Fisher, a former resident had passed away at a hospital in Denver on Monday. Barney is a brother of Geo. Fisher and Mrs. Geo. Behler, and a son of William Fisher, who passed to his reward about ten years ago. Mr. Fisher was recently released from a hospital in Plainview, Texas, where he was confined with an attack of pneumonia. He went to Colorado to regain his strength but complications which caused his death set in and in the weakened condition he was unable to overcome the disease.

The remains will be brought to Wilmore on Thursday and funeral services will be conducted from the Methodist church at 2:30 p.m. The Masonic Lodge will have charge of the services at the cemetery. Mr. Fisher was a member of the Wilmore Masonic Lodge and of the American Legion. The obituary will appear next week.

The Wilmore News, May 22, 1931.

BARNEY FISHER

Barney Martin Fisher, youngest son of William E. and Margaret Fisher, was born at Wilmore, Kansas, November 16, 1892, and departed this life at Denver, Colorado, May 11, 1931.

On April 4, 1931, at Plainview, Texas, he was stricken with pneumonia. Later he was removed to Fitzsimmons hospital at Denver, Colo. There the best medical attention possible was given him but the complications following pneumonia were beyond the control of either loving care or medical attention.

He had found his Savior sometime ago and died with the peace and comfort found only in the assurance of full salvation.

At the time of his death, Barney was 38 years, 5 months and 25 days old.

Barney grew to manhood in the Wilmore community. He entered service in the World War at Greensburg, Kansas, May 27, 1918, serving with the Engineers Corps in France and received his honorable discharge August 11, 1919. Ten years ago he entered business at Boise City, Oklahoma, where he made his home with Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Hood, whose many acts of kindness and affection have endeared them to both Barney and the other members of the Fisher family. Later Barney moved to Plainview, Texas, and was engaged in business there until stricken with his fatal illness.

The surviving members of the family are a brother, George Fisher of Wilmore; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Newlin and Mrs. India Behler of Del Norte, Colorado. Both sisters were with him throughout his entire illness and at the time of his death. A sister, Lula Walden, and a brother, Dan Fisher, and his parents preceded him in death. The nephews are Dr. J. C. Newlin and Roy Newlin of Denver and Robert Fisher of Greensburg. The nieces are Mrs. Loyd Aspinwall of Fort Collins, Colorado, Mrs. Chas. Stewart, Denver, Colorado, Miss Katherine Newlin, Del Norte, Colorado, and Beatrice Fisher, Greensburg, Kansas.

Funeral services were conducted from the Wilmore Methodist church on last Thursday with Rev. F. B. Willis, pastor in charge. Rev. A. Burrill made a short talk. Music was furnished by a choir consisting of Misses Bertha Booth and Maude York, Mrs. Wall, Mrs. Brown, L. E. Baker, Valtos Richardson and Alva York. The pallbearers were Geo. Brown, Geo. Kennedy, R. O. Nevens, David Helliman, Earl Ferrin and C. V. Lott. Interment was in the Wilmore cemetery. The Wilmore Masonic Lodge of which Barney was a member had charge of the services at the cemetery.
