The Wilmore News

The Wilmore News, April 5, 1917.

Mrs. William E. Fisher

Nancy Margaret Fisher was born in Hamilton County, Indiana, January 11, 1852 and passed away at her home in Wilmore March 20, 1917, being 65 years, 3 months and 18 days old. The only part of her life was spent with her parents in Indiana. She was united in marriage to William Fisher November 28, 1871. To this union 6 children were born, five of whom survive her. Lulu Walden passed to the "Great Beyond" 12 years ago at her home in McDonald, Kansas. Lizzie Newlin of Del Norte, Colorado arrived about 8 hours after her mothers death. The father with the other children, George, Dan, India and Barney were with her during her last illness. One sister and her husband Mr. and Mrs. Charley Presser of Anderson, Indiana were here visiting and her cousin Jasper Kile of Ematon, Kansas were also at her bedside when the end came.

Besides her family she is survived by four sisters and one brother, Mrs. J. F. Stephens, Mrs. C. M. Presser, Mrs. Loren Johnson, Mrs. J. F. Gustin and Albert Barnhizer of Indiana.

Mrs. Fisher came with her husband and family from Indiana to what is known as the Fair Lawn neighborhood 27 years ago being one of the oldest settlers in Kiowa county; she went through many privations and hardships such as only new comers in a new country, experience without over grumbling or complaining. She was converted and united with the Methodist church early in life. She was one who practiced Christianity in her everyday walks of life, always ready and willing to help in case of sickness and no poor fellow was ever turned away from her door hungry.

She was perfectly well and healthy until Christmas Eve. 1902, when she suffered a stroke of paralysis, since that time she has been an invalid, at times requiring the greatest of care, which was so cheerfully given by her husband and children, her slightest wish was immediately granted and every precaution taken to make her know that she was not a burden to them. The youngest daughter, India has sacrificed almost the best part of her life in order to be with her mother and minister to her many wants, she certainly has earned many bright stars in her crown by her constant care and devotion to her mother.

The funeral was held from the Christian Church conducted by Rev. Wytle of Coldwater, Kansas. Mrs. Fisher was kind, loving, true and faithful and leaves a host of friends to mourn her loss and who sympathize with the family in their sad bereavement.

A Friend.

Mrs. W. E. Fisher, one of the pioneer settlers near Wilmore, died at her home in Wilmore on Thursday morning of last week.

She is survived by her husband, three sons, George, Dan and Barney, and by two daughters, Mrs. Bart Newlin of Del Norte, Colo., and Miss India Fisher of Wilmore. One daughter, Mrs. Lulu Walden, died in McDonald, Kans., about 12 years ago.

Miss Nancy Margaret Barnhiser was born in Hamilton co., Ind., on January 11, 1852. On November 28, 1871, she was united in marriage with Wm. E. Fisher. Nearly 30 years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Fisher came west and settled on a claim 4 miles northwest of Wilmore, this county, and there they continued to live.

A large number of the neighbors and friends of the deceased were present at the funeral services.
