Another Shooting Scrape

Just after the news had been received here on Tuesday of the acquittal of S W. Miles in Meade-co., another shooting took place in this city, but fortunately no one was hurt. S. M. Locket, ex-city marshal, did the shooting. The 17 year old son of Col D. R. Green of Kiowa-co., namely Duff Green, was Mr. Locket's target. It appears that young Green had been paying attention to Miss Locket, daughter of the ex-marshall, which was against his wishes. On the morning of the shooting Green had met Miss Locket at the school house and had taken her sleigh riding returning about noon. Mr. Locket heard of this, and inasmuch as he had warned Mr. Green to keep away from his house and his daughter. It so enraged him that he hunted Green up and found him on North Central ave., in the act of starting for home. Miss Lela Green, young Green's sister was with him at the time. Mr. Locket called for Green to halt and he got out of the sleigh and approached toward Locket a few steps. Green was unarmed but had his hands in his pockets. Locket told him to throw up his arms, which he did. They had a few words and Locket struck at Green, no warrant has been sworn out for the arrest of Locket. We have only this to say. Our people are becoming mighty tired of these shooting scrapes. If there are any more of them, the person responsible for them ought to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
