James Ferdinand Guseman, aged 34 years, 11 months and 18 days, and son of Mr. and Mrs. O. J. Guseman, who live 10 miles southeast of this city, died at 10:45 p.m. on Monday of this week, September 26, 1921. His last illness was of only about four days duration. On last Friday he suffered an attack of paralysis of one side, which soon extended to the tongue and to all parts of the body. He retained consciousness, however, until about two hours before his death. Funeral services were conducted from the Presbyterian church in this city at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday and burial was in Crown Hill cemetery. Rev. A. Frank Johnson, the Presbyterian pastor, had charge of the funeral services, Rev. Austin of the M. E. church assisting. Rev. Johnson's text was, "For when he dieth, he shall carry nothing away." Ps. 49:17.Deceased was born in this county on October 8, 1886, and continued to make his home here with his parents, who were early day settlers. While quite a young man Ferdie was kicked by a mule and the injuries proved to be a permanent handicap to him in his work as well as in his educational pursuits. the injury caused a spinal trouble, which grew worse as he grew older. In his quiet, unobtrusive way, Ferdie won many friends, and from them he received many expressions of kindness, esteem and of sympathy. He was an obedient son, his greatest delight being found with the home associations. He was baptized into the Catholic church in infancy. The bereaved relatives have the sympathy of all.
Besides his parents, deceased is survived by three brothers and one sister. They are Cecil, Claude and Denzel Guseman and Mrs. B. F. Arnold, all of this county. All except Denzel were present during his last sickness and at the time of his death.
