A. J. Hackney, aged about 62 years, suffered a heart attack while he was in Freedom, Okla., about five o'clock last Saturday afternoon. An Alva doctor was called but Mr. Hackney passed away at six p.m., about the time the doctor arrived.He had made his home on Highway 50, five and one half miles south of Lookout, for a number of years and had spent most of his life in that community.
He is survived by his wife; one son, Billy, who is in Alaska, and by two daughters, Mary Ellen, of the home and a married daughter who lives at Camp Houston, Okla.
Funeral services were held in the Freedom church at two o'clock on Tuesday afternoon and burial was in Crown Hill cemetery near Coldwater.
Mr. Hackney was an uncle of Phillip and George Hackney and of Mrs. Ardinell Kuster of Coldwater and was a veteran of World War I. He was held in the highest regard by all who knew him.
Hackney - Gwnip
Anthony J. Hackney, son of Geo. Hackney, was united in marriage in Alva, Okla., on Wednesday, September 12, 1923, to Miss Eva Gwnip. The groom is well known in the southern part of this county and is a most worthy young man. The bride has taught school in the Lookout neighborhood for the past two years. She is an estimable young lady. The couple were given a reception on the following Sunday by the groom's sister and sister-in-law, Mrs. R. E. McGaully and Mrs. Harry Hackney. A delicious dinner was enjoyed. All join in wishing Mr. and Mrs. Hackney abundant success and happiness throughout their married life. -- The Western Star, September 21, 1923.
