Death Comes to Kenneth Hackney

Funeral services for Kenneth H. (Scott) Hackney were held at the Freedom Christian Church on Thursday, August 31, 1967, at 2:00 p.m. Doctor Walter Moore and Reverend Richard L. Cayton officiating.

Painist was Mrs. Billie Wardrop. A quartet, Mrs. Ruby Bishop, Mrs. Sharie Beagley, Mrs. Wanda Reed and Mrs. Corine South, sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "When I Take My Vacation in Heaven."

Casket bearers were Lloyd Beagley, Alfred Bliss, Ernest Parker, John Pepperd, Ben Schultz and John Woods. Arrangements were made by Wharton Funeral chapel in Alva, Okla.

Interment in Crown Hill Cemetery; Coldwater, Kans.

Obituary

Kenneth Herbert Hackney (or Scott as he was known to everyone) was born February 17, 1912, to Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hackney, and departed this life August 28, 1967, at the age of 55 years, 6 months and 11 days.

He grew to young manhood in the Lookout community and was a graduate of the Coldwater High School with the class of 1931.

He then continued farming and ranching on his own and worked on the Horace Parker ranch. He was inducted into the Armed Forces in 1942, and was given a medical discharge in 1943. He then returned to the Horace Parker home where he lived until March 28 of this year. At that time he was admitted to the Alva General Hospital where he remained until the time of his death August 28, 1967.

He was preceded in death by his mother in 1939 and his father in 1947. Scott was a member of the Freedom I.O.O.F. Lodge and had served as Past Noble Grand. He was a member of the Freedom Hatch-Vincent American Legion Post and a member of the Methodist Church.

He is survived by four brothers: George and Phillip of Coldwater, Lloyd of Protection, and Vernon of Freedom, Okla., and three sisters, Mrs. Alfred (Mildred) Hodgson of Lookout, Okla., Mrs. Ivan (Laura) Murrow of Alva, Oka., and Mrs. Dean (Betty) Wilson of Freedom; twelve nieces and nephews and seven great nieces and nephews; also his very close friends, Mr. and Mrs. Horace Parker and a host of other relatives and friends.
