Mrs. Naomi Ruth Hackney, 46, died Saturday, November 30, 1974, at the Kiowa County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg after a long illness.Funeral services were held on Tuesday, December 3, 1974, at 2 p.m. at United Methodist church in Coldwater with Rev. Carl Carrier and Rev. William McFall in charge of the services. The Mennonite quartet sang "Precious Memories and "Take My Hand Precious Lord," accompanied by the organist, Mrs. Hazel McMurray.
Pallbearers were John Wallace, Clayton Sherman, Roy Purcell, Clair Thompson, Curtis Lohrding, and Lem Herd. Honorary pallbearers were Muriel Gregg, Hod Rich, F. H. Moberly, Keith Tucker, Clifford Blount, and Ralph Klepinger. Interment was in Crown Hill cemetery, Coldwater, Kans. Arrangements were handled by the Hatfield Funeral Home, Coldwater.
Obituary. Naomi Ruth Hackney was born October 1, 1928 to Clinton and Opal Herd at Wilmore, Kans., and departed this life after a lingering illness on November 30, 1974 at the age of 46 years, two months at Greensburg, Kans.
At the age of 10 Naomi moved with her parents to Coldwater. She attended Coldwater schools and became a member of the National Honor Society.
Naomi was married to Phillip H. Hackney, February 9, 1947, at Coldwater, Kans. To this union was born one daughter, Catherine Kay.
After she graduated from high school, Naomi did secretarial work in the probates judge's office, the Horace Rich law office, and the ASCS office until her death forced her to retire. She was night dispatcher for the Comanche County Sheriff's office for several years.
She was a member of the United Methodist church, Order of Eastern Star, No. 224, V. F. W. Auxillary, and had an honorary life membership in the National Association of A.S.C.S. county office employees.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Leta Ola Herd.
She is survived by her husband, Phillip, daughter and son-in-law, Catherine and Howard Smith of Cornwells Heights, Penn., grandson, Howie, parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Herd, Coldwater, sisters, Mrs. Jim (Ferrel) Hazen,, Coldwater, Mrs. Bill (Mary Lou) Milhon, Liberal, Mrs. John (Virginia Lee) Schwab, Mulvane; brothers, Howard Herd, Wichita, Eugene Herd, Phoenix, Ariz., many nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.
Naomi accepted her illness with this prayer: God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.
Naomi lived by this scripture, Matthew 17:20: If ye have faith as a grain of mustard see..nothing shall be impossible unto you.
