The barn on the D. F. Haldeman farm, 3 1/2 miles northeast of this city, was destroyed by fire late on Tuesday evening of this week. In the barn at the time were three good cows, four sets of work harness, about 75 bushels of milo maize and a number of other things usually kept about a barn, also two automobiles - one a jitney belonging to the tenant on the farm, Wallace Steinmann, and the other to his father-in-law, who lives in Stafford-co. Near by the barn were two wagons and considerable farm machinery, and everything in and near the barn was also consumed by the greedy flames. It was a heavy loss to Mr. Steinmann, as we understand there was no insurance on his property. The barn was insured to the amount of 500. Mr. Haldeman, the owner, now lives in Greensburg. The origin of the fire is unknown. About 2 a.m. a neighbor happened to discover the blaze and hastened to spread the news among the neighbors but nothing could be done to save the burning building and its contents and the machinery and sheds surrounding it. The barn was a well constructed building with ample stable room and sheds. Mr. Steinmann and his family have the sympathy of all in their misfortune.
