The Western Star, June 24, 1993.

Lena Faye Haun

Lena Faye Haun, 85, died at her home in Coldwater Tuesday, June 16, 1993.

She was born Dec. 20, 1907, near Okarche, Okla., to John and Pearl Farris Pritchett. She lost her parents ar an early age.

When Lena was 10 years old, she went to make her home with Ray and Mary Helt in Kingfisher, Okla. She always considered the Helts and their two sons, Bob and Kenneth, as part of her family.

She remained with the Helts until her marriage to Myrl Evert Haun, known as "Shorty," Oct. 6, 1928.

Lena and "Shorty" lived in the El Reno, Okla., area until they moved to Liberal in 1930. Their two sons, Gale and Gary, were born in Liberal.

In March, 1941, they moved to Coldwater, where they owned and operated a bakery for seven years and the Gamble store for 25 years.

After selling the store, they resided in Hutchinson for a year before moving back to Coldwater, where they lived for the remainder of their retirement years.

Lena was an active member of the First Christian Church of Coldwater and the Coldwater Business and Professional Women's Club, Inc., where she was honored with the "Woman of the Year" award in 1991.

She was known for her sweet and gentle nature. Although she worked side-by-side with "Shorty" in their business, Lena always found time to show a loving and compassionate concern for others.

For many years, Lena kept a beautiful iris and rose garden.

Preceding Lena in death were her husband, Myrl; a son, Gale, five sisters and two brothers.

She is survived by her son Gary, Tucson, five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Funeral was held at the First Christian Church in Coldwater, with Rev. Jack Wingate presiding and Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, Coldwater, in charge of arrangements. Burial was in Crown Hill cemetery, Coldwater.

Family suggests memorials be sent to the Christian Church Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home.

Lena Haun sang at the funeral of Effie Maude (Highfill) Atteberry.
