G. Ronald Herd Presented Bronze Star

The following clipping from the October 24 Lawrence, Kans., Journal World concerns Ronald Herd, a captain during World War II and son of Mr. and Mrs. James L. Herd of Coldwater.

"G. Ronald Herd, 1806 Vermont street, was presented the Bronze Star medal at his home today by Captain J. S. Woodell, of the Kansas City recruiting office, under direction of President Truman and awarded by the commanding general, 97th infantry division.

"The citation read "for meritorious achievement in connection with military operations against the enemy in Germany and Czechoslovakia from April 6 to May 8, 1945."

"Herd, an instructor of Economics at Kansas University, was a captain in the field artillery during the war. A native of Coldwater, he entered the army in 1942 and was discharged in 1946. He served in the European theater of operations from November 1944 to July 1945 with the 97th infantry. From then until his discharge he served in Japan with the United States occupation forces.

"Present at the home for the decoration ceremony this morning were Mr. Herd and Sgt. Martin W. Laue, local recruiting officer.
