Jesse James "Jim" Herd

Jesse James "Jim" Herd, son of Malvina (Randles) and James T. Herd was born Mar. 27, 1892 at Charity, Dallas County, Mo. He died in Coldwater May 7, 1981 at the age of 89 years, 1 month, 10 days.

On June 24, 1914 at Conway, Leclede County, Mo., he was married to Bernice Shields. To their marriage four sons and two daughters were born.

In May 1915, they came to Comanche county to make their home. In 1922 they settled on their farm in Avilla Township where they raised their family and resided until 1950 when they moved into Coldwater.

He was a member of the Coldwater United Methodist Church, the farm Bureau and the Lions Club.

Mr. Herd was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and two brothers.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice, of the home, four sons and two daughters and their spouses: James Jr. and Maxine, Protection; Harold and Midge, Coldwater; Ronald and Jean, Vienna, Va.; Eldon and Glenna, Cupertino, Calif.; Lorraine and Robert Kendrick, Alva, Okla., and Barbara and Cedric Crane, Saratoga, Calif.; 21 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, his brother, John T., Coldwater; and a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Services were held Monday, May 11, 1981, at the Coldwater Methodist Church. Rev. William McFall officiating. Interment was at Crown Hill cemetery, Coldwater.
