Mrs. Jane Hickman of Coldwater passed away in a Dodge City hospital last Sunday after a lingering illness, the result of a cancerous condition.Funeral services were held in the Coldwater Methodist church at 3 p.m. on Tuesday of this week and were in charge of Rev. Oscar Matthew, the pastor. A ladies quartet composed of Mrs. Fred Anderson, Mrs. J. W. Brewer, Mrs. James Caywood and Mrs. Ross Beeley sang "Face to Face" and "Now the Day is Over," accompanied on the organ by Mrs. Hobart McMillen.
Burial was in Crown Hill cemetery. The pallbearers were E. R. Harrow, M. L. Zerby, Joe K. Darroch, Dwight Copple, Bob Harp and Chester Dale.
Obituary. Amanda Jane Hickman, daughter of Robert and Jane Vaughn, was born June 4, 1885, in Edison, Tenn., and departed this life at Dodge City, Kans., February 2, 1947, at the age of 61 years, 7 months and 2 days.
Mrs. Hickman had been in failing health for several months, and it was known by the family circle that her condition was serious.
On June 16, 1901, she was united in marriage with James W. Hickman at Edison, Tenn. Mr. Hickman preceded her in death August 8, 1931.
In 1902 the Hickmans came to Oklahoma where they made their home until in 1907 when they moved to Arkansas. They came to Kansas about eight years ago and have made their home at Coldwater until her death.
Four sons and seven daughters were born to this union. Three girls and two boys preceded their mother in death. All died in infancy.
Mrs. Hickman was converted and united with the Methodist church about 15 years ago.
Surviving are two sons - James Patton Hickman of Kingsport, Tenn., and William Lester Hickman of Oakland, Calif.; four daughters - Mrs. O. C. Emerick, Coldwater; Mrs. Norma Ridenour, Heavener, Okla.; Mrs. Cleo Land, Dodge City, Kans.; Mrs. Bessie Pantages, San Leandro, Calif., and 17 grandchildren.
The family, knowing their mother's condition, had all been with her the past few months. Mrs. Hickman was a kind and patient mother and will be greatly missed.
