Abraham Philip Hinkle was born in Brairwood County near Wheeling, West Virginia on July 20, 1854, and passed away at the home of his son on March 11, 1938; aged 82 years, 7 months and 19 days.He grew to manhood in Beaver Mills, West Virginia at which place he made a public profession of Christian faith at the age of 30 and united with the Baptist Church at that place.
When Mr. Hinkle was 21, he was united in marriage to Anna Boggs. To this union 4 children were born; Mrs. Delsa Taylor, and Mrs. Grace Doolen both of San Bernardino, California, L. C. Hinkle of Wilmore, and Mary who died in childhood. His wife preceded him in death in 1892. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 5 half brothers and 3 half sisters.
Mr. Hinkle left West Virginia in 1884 and came to Kansas where he filed a claim in Rumsey Township, Comanche County. In 1893 he moved to Texas and returned to Alva, Oklahoma in 1927. Since 1934 he has made his home with his son where he passed away after a brief illness.
Mr. Hinkle was of the rugged, pioneer type. He knew hardship and could recall many interesting experiences of the early days in the southwest. He lived a simple, quiet life, enjoyed good health and assisted his son on the farm up until about the time of his death. Just before he passed away he re-affirmed his faith in God's promise and in Christ at his Savior.
"There remaineth therefore, a rest to the people of God."
Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at the Wilmore Baptist Church by Rev. F. Russell Pitman and burial was made in the Wilmore Cemetery.
