Death Comes to World War I Veteran

Charles A. Hobson, son-in-law of Mrs. Anna Wallace of Coldwater, suffered a paralytic stroke while working in Sublette, Kans., Wednesday of last week and was taken in an ambulance to the Veterans Hospital in Wichita, where he died the following Saturday.

Funeral services were held in the Hulpieu-Swain Funeral Home in Dodge City Monday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock and were in charge of Rev. Donald A. Kessler, pastor of the Coldwater Methodist church. A graveside burial service, in charge of Rev. Kessler, was held at 4 p.m. at Crown Hill cemetery near Coldwater. The pallbearers were Martin Zerby, Fred Anderson, R. W. McIntyre, John Jones, Clifford Smith and J. W. Brewer.

Obituary

Charles A. Hobson, son of Alfred Allen and Mary Alma Hobson, was born March 23, 1900, at Natrona, Kans., and passed away May 19, 1951, at the Wichita Veterans' Hospital, at the age of 51 years.

In 1935 he was united in marriage with Miss Catherine Wallace of Coldwater, Kans. To this union two sons were born. Mr. Hobson was preceded in death by his father and mother. He is survived by his wife, Catherine, two sons, Alfred and Pierre of the home; a daughter, Billie Hobson, of Pratt, Kans.; one sister, Mrs. D. G. Raymer of Arkansas City, Kans.; three brothers, Francis P. Hobson of Arkansas City; E. E. Hobson of Guymon, Okla.; and First Lieutenant Winfred P. Hobson, in service overseas; and by many other relatives and friends.

Mr. Hobson came with his parents to live in Pratt, Kans., as a child and spent his boyhood there. He was a young man when World War I broke out and enlisted in the service. He spent 13 months overseas. After his discharge from service, Mr. Hobson attended Cooking School and has worked as a cook most of his life. He worked for Mr. Herrington in Dodge City for 13 years. In December of 1948 Mr. and Mrs. Hobson moved to Sublette, Kans., as manager of the Cooperative Locker. Later he opened Hobby's Coffee Shop where he was working at the time of his final illness.

Mr. Hobson was a member of the American Legion Post No. 205 of Sublette, Kans.; and of the Elks Lodge No. 1406, of Dodge City, Kan.

Mrs. Hobson and sons plan to make their home in Coldwater.
