James Holderby, son of Hiram Holderby of this county, died at his home in Kansas City at 8 o'clock on Thursday of last week, April 19, 1923. He had complained of not feeling very well, but there was no thought of his condition being serious. Death was quite sudden, and was caused, evidently, by a paralytic or apoplectic stroke. The body was brought to Coldwater on Sunday and burial was made in Crown Hill cemetery, following funeral services at the Presbyterian church. Rev. E. S. Corrie, the M. E. pastor in Protection, made an impressive talk, speaking from the text, "For I know that Thou wilt bring me to death, and the house appointed to all living," Job 30:23. Rev. A. Frank Johnson, the local Presbyterian pastor, read the Scripture lesson. A special choir sang two beautiful selections.John James Holderby was born near Protection on September 27, 1884. His age, therefore, at the time of his death was 38 years, 6 months and 23 days. He continued to make Comanche-co. his home until about 20 years ago, when he went to Lawton, Okla., where he lived for several years. While a resident of that city he was united in marriage with Miss Nettie Long, who died several years later. Jim later moved to Kansas City. He remarried in that city a few years ago, and continued to make Kansas City his home. His wife, also his father, two brothers and two sisters, survive. The brothers are Cash and Grover Holderby of Drumright, Okla., and his sisters are (Mrs.) H. W. Chapman of Wichita and Mrs. D. E. Taylor of this county. The bereaved relatives have the sincere sympathy of all in their affliction.
