MRS. GRANT HOLLIMAN DIES

Mrs. Grant Holliman, after an illness of several days, died at the Hamburg, Iowa, hospital, Tuesday afternoon, June 25th. She had been in poor health for some time, but about two weeks before her death became worse and was taken to the Hamburg hospital and underwent an operation. She was apparently relieved and was taken home a few days later. She suffered a relapse the following day and was returned to the Hamburg hospital, but the best of medical skill was of no avail and the end came last Thursday.

Mrs. Holliman has been a citizen of Fremont county almost continually for the past fifty years and had experienced many of the hardships of the pioneers of the west. In her passing, the community loses a splendid Christian woman whose friendship was prized and whose many acts of kindness will be remembered by a large circle of friends.

Celia J. Bartlett was born December 23, 1959, in Noble county, Ohio, the daughter of George W. and Dorcus Bartlett. She lived in Ohio until fourteen years of age, when the family moved to Adams county, Iowa. In 1880, she came with her parents to Locust Grove township and has been a citizen of Fremont county since that time, with the exception of a few years spent in Kansas and Missouri.

In 1885, she united with the Locust Grove Methodist church and was for several years a member of that congregation. She was a faithful church worker and took active part in church work as long as her health permitted.

She was united in marriage to William Grant Holliman, March 24, 1891, at Nebraska City, Nebr., and to this union six sons were born, all of whom are living and mourn the loss of a loving mother. They are George S. of Burlington Junction, Mo.; David F. of Wilmore, Kansas; Floyd of Hamburg; Giles, who is employed by Woods Bros. Construction Co.; Barlett and Hubert H., both of Hamburg.

Mrs. Holliman passed away at the Hamburg hospital, June 25, 1931, following an illness of several days and at the time of her demise was 72 years, 6 months and 2 days old. Besides the six sons, she is survived by her husband, Grant Holliman; one sister, Emma Yates of Miami, Fla.; two brothers, John and Scott Bartlett of Hamburg and thirteen grandchildren.

She was one of those lovable, Christian ladies whose life was an example to her many friends, as well as her children. Of a quiet nature, she lived a life of devotion; ever willing to aid in times of distress and devoted her life to her family and the betterment of the community.

Funeral services were conducted at the Hamburg Methodist church, Saturday, June 27, at one p.m., Rev. Jay Kirkendall, officiating. The remains were taken to the Locust Grove cemetery, where short services were held and interment was made. The six sons acted as pall bearers.
