Floyd A. Howard, who at one time was a resident of Coldwater, was killed in an airplane crash near Wakeeney, Kans., last Saturday morning as he was piloting his plane from Wichita to Denver. Also killed was his wife and Lucille Jackson all of Wichita.Funeral services for Mr. Howard were held in the Hatfield Funeral Home in Coldwater on Monday, August 20, at 2:30 p.m. and were in charge of Rev. Ernest Lawrence, pastor of the Wilmore Baptist church. Gary Swarmer, accompanied on the piano by Mrs. George Smith sang, "I Know Who Holds Tomorrow," "Beautiful Garden of Prayer" and "The Lord's Prayer."
The pallbearers were Clinton, Clayton and Norman Sherman, Don Robinson, Fred Anderson and Raymond Lohrding. Burial was in Crown Hill Cemetery near Coldwater.

Floyd Alton Howard was born April 28, 1911, at Burkett, Texas, and was killed in a plane crash near Wakeeney, Kans., August 18, 1956. He was the son of Charles Henry and Katherine Emiline Howard. He spent his early years on a farm near, Burkett and then moved to Catarina, Texas, in 1928, where he graduated from high school.
Shortly after his graduation from high school he was united in marriage with Winnie Lou Tandy. To this union was born one daughter, Lily Ann.
In 1934 he moved with his family to Coldwater, Kans., where he was employed at farm work. They lived here until 1940. At that time the family moved to Wichita, where he was employed by the Cessna Aircraft Co. During his employment there, he was promoted until at the time of his death he was foreman of Department 45.
In 1955 he was united in marriage with Eurline McCurtain, who was killed in the accident with him.
He attended the Baptist church in his youth. He was very interested in aviation and was a member of the Cessna Aviation Club. He was also a member of the Employees Association Club. He loved to travel and spent a lot of time doing so. He always took pride in his lawn and as a hobby made a lot of his own furniture.
He is survived by his daughter, Lily Ann Hinson and three grandchildren, Sue, Ted and Bob Hinson of Wichita; also five brothers and six sisters, all of south Texas.
