Robert Huffmaster, a well known citizen of Comanche-co. for many years, died on March 23, 1920, at his home near Bolivar, La. He had been in poor health for about three years, but had felt better than usual during the past winter until about three weeks before his death. On the evening of March 22 he was stricken with paralysis and he never regained consciousness. He suffered greatly, but was uncomplaining all the while. Burial was made in the Parker cemetery near Bolivar by the side of his son, Frank, who died a little over a year ago.Mr. Huffmaster was a native of Pennsylvania, having been born in Sullivan-co., that state, on April 7, 1848. His age at the time of his death was 71 years, 11 months and 16 days. He was the youngest of a family of ten children, all of whom had preceded him in death. In infancy he was baptized in the Lutheran church. When about 25 years of age he moved to Peoria, Ill., and in that city on October 8, 1875, he was united in marriage with Miss Charity Marlatt. In the year 1887 the family moved from Illinois to Beaver-co., Oklahoma, and they lived there for three years. The family then moved to Comanche-co., settling on a farm 4 1/2 miles west of this city, and they continued their residence here for about 25 years, or until seven years ago when Mr. and Mrs. Huffmaster concluded to move south with the view that a warmer climate would benefit their health.
During his residence in Comanche-co. Mr. Huffmaster gave some attention to farming, but devoted most of his time to carpentering. He was a good workman, always dependable and absolutely upright and honorable in all his dealings. The county knew no better citizen than he. He and his devoted wife shared in the hardships incident to pioneer life and were among the number who stayed with the county through all its early day vicissitudes. Mr. Huffmaster showed a constant desire to do his utmost to render good service in whatever work he undertook, and his frankness and honesty his genial yet quiet disposition will long be remembered by all with whom he mingled.
Mr. Huffmaster is survived by his wife and five children. The children are : Albert and Miss Ella, who are still at home; Mrs. Anna Gray of Protection, this county; Charley Huffmaster of Fellsburg, Kans.; and Mrs. Belle Woodworth of Brownson, Nebr. The bereaved family have the sympathy of many friends here.
