Ice Brings Down Limbs, Cuts Off Electricity
Rain and freezing temperatures.That was the case in Coldwater all day Tuesday, with parts of town out of electricity from mid-day through the night and into Wednesday.
School was called off here, as well as at most schools across the area, and a number of Coldwater businesses closed due to the fact that their electricity was off.
Remarkably. damage to buildings and vehicles was light in Coldwater. Obvious damage Tuesday evening was limited to two collapsed carports in the south central part of town. Few power poles came down in Coldwater as a result of the ice storm, but numerous power lines were torn down and a number of electric meters were torn from houses as tree limbs collapsed across power lines, dragging them to the ground.
Damage in Protection was light compared to that in Coldwater, with CMS crews tending to problems of their customers in Protection.
Across the county, damage was wide-spread with some rural residents doing without electricity through the night... (End of excerpt from article)
