Last Saturday evening Messrs. Johnson, Wheeler and Delapp, of Salt Fork were returning from Coldwater with a load of lumber, the wagon wheels suddenly dropped into a rut, about a mile west of this place, and Mr. Johnson who was setting on top the lumber, fell off backwards, his head and shoulders striking the ground first knocking him insensible. Messrs. Wheeler and Delapp picked him up and brought him to McWilliams' hotel. Doctors Dunn and Darling were called, and succeeded in reviving him, when it was discovered that he had sustained injuries which, if they do not prove fatal, will cripple him for life. The lower part of his body is paralyzed, and up to yesterday morning his life was despaired of, but a change for the better has taken place and hopes are entertained that his life will be spared. Mr. Johnson is in limited circumstances, and has a family depending on him which makes his misfortune fall doubly heavy.
