The Western Star, July 29, 1884

First Marriage in Coldwater

The first marriage ever consummated in Coldwater took place at residence of the bride's brother, Mr. Beymer, on north main-st., at 8 o'clock Tuesday morning, September 15, 1884. The contracting parties were James E. Jones of Lasalle county, Illinois and Miss Sarah D. Beymer of this city. The ceremony, which was short and solemn, was conducted by Rev. J. W. Phillips, and was witnessed by Mr. Beymer and family, Mrs. T. H. Bale and daughter, Robert Cameron and the editor of the STAR. The groom, a tall handsome gentlemen, is to be congratulated upon his choice, as his little bride is one among the pretty, intelligent and sociable young ladies of which our town has our share. They departed immediately after the ceremony for Medicine Lodge where they will spend a week or ten days and return to this place and make it their home.
