The Protection Post, July 19, 1917.

RATTLER BITE FATAL

The 12 year old daughter of W. W. Kimes and wife was buried in the local cemetery Saturday.

Last Thursday while out on the prairie at the home northwest of Englewood seventeen miles the little girl was bitten by a rattle snake. Everything was done to save the little girl but she gradually grew worse, dying Saturday. Sunday the body was brought from the home and interred in the local cemetery.

(According to Protection Cemetery gravestone readings, her name was Madge Kimes.)
