Gus Klingenberg, 84 year old Protection resident, was killed instantly shortly after noon Sunday by a self-inflicted shot gun wound. His body was discovered lying on a back porch at his home about 1:30 by Willis Bratcher who was making a social call.Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Methodist Church under the direction of the Rev. F. G. Smith.
Mrs. Clifford Sibbitt and Mrs. Charles Jones sang "In the Garden" and "Beyond the Sunset." The organist was Mrs. Lewis Hopkins.
Casket bearers were Clark Webster, Neal Simonds, Atlee Edmonston, Elmer Zimmerman, J. L. Corson, and Dwight McGee. Honorary bearers were W. U. Keltner, Harry Large, Robert Sanders, Joe Schumacher, A. B. Shoemaker and Frank Rainbolt.
Interment was in the Willow Creek cemetery at Paruna, Okla.
OBITUARY Gus A. Klingenberg was born in Germany on August 5, 1871, and departed this life at his home in Protection, Kansas on April 22, 1956 at the age of 84 years, 8 months and 17 days.
He came to America at the age of twelve. He united in marriage with Laura A. Miller, in Woodston County, Kansas in 1898. To this union two sons were born. He engaged in farming for some time then he engaged in the grocery business in Gridley, Kansas. In 1901 he moved to Harper County, Okla., where he took a homestead.
His son Walter passed away at the age of twelve. His son Wesley passed away in 1931. His companion passed away September 29, 1948.
He moved to Protection, Kans., in 1938 where he made his home until his death. In 1952 he was united in marriage with Mrs. Ida VanWey, of Protection. She is now in a rest home in Haviland, Kans.
He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Iva Klingenberg of Buffalo, Okla., one grandson Wesley Klingenberg also of Buffalo, three great grandchildren, one brother Ed of Gridley, Kans., and two half brothers Amial and Fred Light, both of Yates Center, Kans.
