Published Notices of Various 1886 & 1887 Transactions
in Comanche County, Kansas

Land office at Larned, Kas., Dec. 3d. 1886. Notice is hereby given that the following named settler has filed notice of his intention to make final proof in support of his claim, and that said proof will be made before Frank Meyer, Clerk Dis't. Court, at Coldwater, Kansas, on Jan'y 24, 1887, viz: Loren Ferrin -- Osage D S No 12,677, for the w1/2 sw qr, ne1/4 sw1/4 and nw1/4 se1/4 sec 11, twp 31 south, range 17 west. He names the following witnesses to prove his continuous residence upon, and cultivation of said land, viz: GS Fringer, TA chambers, SG Farnsworth and C Cochran, all of Coldwater, comanche county, Kansas.

Also Arthur Ferrin -- Osage DS No. 11,469, for the se1/4 sec 10, twp 31 south, range 17 west. He names the following witnesses to prove his continuous residence upon, and cultivation of, said land, viz: GS Fringer, TA Chambers, SG Farnsworth and C Cochran, all of Coldwater, comanche county, kas.

He names the following witnesses to prove his continuous residence upon, and cultivation of, said land, viz: John Todd, Harry Todd, Isaac Barnhill and Jasper Varner, all of Avilla, comanche county, Kans.

Also, Franz Sooboda -- Osage D.S. No 12,419 for the w1/2 sw1/4 sec 17 and w1/2 nw1/4 sec 20, twp 33 south, range 19 west. He names the following witnesses to prove his continouous residence upon, and cultivation of said land, viz: William P Riley, John Freund, Isaac Williams and James Williams, all of Avilla, Comanche county, Kansas.

He names the following witnesses to prove his continnous residence upon , and cultivation of, said land, viz: Ambrose DeLair, JP Shimer, Charles Shimer and Silas DeLair, all of Nescatunga, Comanche county, Kas.

Also, Rachel Pfeiffer -- Osage d s No 11,871, for the s1/2 ne1/4 & n1/2 se1/4 sec 35, tp 33 south of range 17 west. He names the following witnesses to prove his continuous residence upon, and cultivation of, said land, viz: Ambrose DeLair, JP Shimer, Charles Shimer and Silas DeLair, all of Nescatunga, comanche county, Kansas.

SHERIFF'S SALE

By virtue of two executions to me directed, issued out of the District Court of Comanche county, Kansas, I will, on WEDNESDAY, THE 19TH DAY OF JANUARY, 1887, at 2 o'clock P.M. of said day, at the west fron door of the court house in the City of Coldwater, Comanche county, Kansas, offer for sale at public auction to the highest bidder for cash in hand, all the right, title and interest whatsover, of Lewis Jackson, in and to the following described lands and tenements in said county, to wit: The northeast quarter (1/4) of section sixteen (16) in township thirty-four (34) south of range nineteen (19) west of the sixth principal meridian -- appraised at $160.00 over and above the amount due the State of Kansas thereon, the same being "School Land." This land is taken as the property of said Lewis Jackson, defendant in the above named two executions; and is to be sold to satisfy said two executions, issued in behalf of R.T. Seltzer. Witness my hand as Sheriff of said county at my office in said City of Coldwater, this December 17, 1886.

SHERIFF'S SALE

By virtue of an execution issued from the office of Clerk of the District court of Shawnee county, state of Kansas, dated October 27th, 1886, and directed to the undersigned sheriff of Comanche county. Kansas, against C.L. Dunn, J.E. Tincher, H.N. Cunningham and J.W. McWilliams and in favor of J.A. Smith, I have levied upon the following described real estate of said defendants, J.E. Tincher and H.N. Cunningham, to wit: Lots seven (7) and eight (8) in block number twenty-one (21), together will all the buildings and appurtenances thereon; all situate and being in the town of Nescatunga, Comanche county, Kansas; and I will on TUESDAY, JANUARY, 11TH, 1887, at 2 o'clock P.M. of said day, sell at public sale, at the west front door of the courthouse, in Coldwater, said county and state, the above described property, so so much thereof, to satisfy said debt of $250.00, with interest and costs, to the highest bidder, for cash in hand. Witness my hand this 3d day of December, A.D., 1886.

The Osage Diminished Reserve Lands included what is today Comanche County, Kansas. Comanche County was NOT settled under the provisions of the Homestead Act.
