Tuesday evening the town was shocked by the news that the four months old baby of E. G. Lawrence and wife had come to its death from smothering. Its mother had placed the babe upon the bed about the middle of the afternoon and gone ahead with her washing. She was in and out of the room but as the child seemed sleeping she did not disturb it, as she was busy, until a neighbor lady ran in to try a hood on the baby. On attempting to awaken it was the first inclination of its death. But the little body was cold. The spirit had gone into the keeping of its Great Maker.
Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Mawdsley of the Methodist church, was held at the residence Wednesday at four thirty and the body laid to rest by kind, loving but sorrowful hands in the local cemetery.
In their great desolation the father and mother are upheld by the knowledge of the sympathy of their friends.
According to Protection Cemetery records, this child was named Orpha Lawrence.
