During the electric storm on Monday forenoon five horses belonging to Lon Emerson were killed by being struck by lightning. They were near each other in the pasture and evidently were killed instantly. There was no insurance carried on them.
A stack of wheat on Mrs. W. B. Newman's farm near Protection was destroyed by being set on fire by lightning on Monday forenoon. Henry Hoppie lives on the place and he and Mrs. Newman are the losers.
