Funeral services were held at the Baptist church in Protection on Monday, April 1, 1963, at 2:30 p.m. for Ray Charles Lowman. Rev. Martin Alley officiated.A quartet composed of Mrs. L. A. Shrauner, Mrs. Robert Sanders, Mrs. Merle Wait and Mrs. Ellis Callaway, sang "Face to Face" and "Beyond the Sunset." Pianist was Mrs. Albert Holler.
Pallbearers were Walter and Glenn Maris, Waldo Riner, Merle Wait, Wilmer Ward and Dean Hopkins.
Protection Masonic Lodge No. 384 held graveside services. Interment was in the Protection cemetery, Protection, Kansas.
Obituary Ray C. Lowman was born in Johnston, Penn., January 5, 1886, to John Paul and Ida J. Lowman and passed away March 26, 1963, after a short illness, in Portland, Oregon, at the age of 77 years, 2 months and 21 days.
Mr. Lowman was united in marriage to Hazel E. Munson, January 12, 1908, in Niles, Kans. To this union were born two children, Lawrence W. Lowman of Portland, Oregon, and Laurena J. Swanson of Tacoma, Washington. Mrs. Hazel Lowman preceded him in death on December 21, 1935, at Protection, Kans.
Mr. Lowman was united in marriage to Ruth Slonaker of Claresholm, Alberta, Canada, on October 16, 1937, in Garden City, Kans. Mrs. Lowman had a daughter by a former marriage, who now resides at Alberta, Canada, Mrs. W. J. (Effie) Harper. Mrs. Ruth Lowman passed away March 5, 1965 at Coldwater, Kans.
Mr. Lowman is survived by two children, Laurence W. Lowman and Mrs. Laurena J. Swanson; one step-daughter, Mrs. W. J. Harper; three grandchildren, Pat Lowman of Portland, Oregon, and Cathy and Carl Swanson of Tacoma, Wash.; six step-grandchildren, and a host of step-great grandchildren.
Mr. Lowman had been in the grain business since the age of 18 and retired from the business at Coldwater in 1965.
He joined the Masonic Lodge in Deer Creek, Okla., in 1922 and transferred to the Protection Masonic Lodge in 1924.
Mr. Lowman accepted Christ as a young man. He joined the First Baptist church on January 8, 1961, at Portland, Oregon, and was a very faithful member.
Mr. Lowman was a friend to all in need, extremely interested in civic activities and very active in the Masonic Lodge and the church. He loved the Lord and was fervent in prayer and the study of the Word of God. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
