Majel, Comanche County, Kansas

Majel was a spur on the Santa Fe Railway six miles northeast of Wilmore in S2-T31-R17. Located one-fourth mile south of the Comanche-Kiowa County line, is was named for Majel Wright, daughter of Jim Wright. Grain was shipped from there, but no elevator was ever constructed. Instead, a wooden loading dock was built into an earthen bank near the track so that wagons could drive onto it. Wheat was scooped by hand into a hopper mounted above the track which fed into cars left on the spur. Santa Fe timetables listed the site in 1925, and it is thought to have existed until the late 1920s or early 1930s.
