Effie M. McCay, 93, died Feb. 7, 1996, at Pioneer Lodge Nursing Home in Coldwater.She was born Aug. 12, 1902, at the family home in the New Eden community near Coldwater, the daughter of Comanche County pioneers James Monroe and Carrie (Behler) McCay.
A lifetime resident, she was a retired retail sales clerk at Allderdice's Department Store in Coldwater.
She attended William Woods College for Women in Missouri; graduated from Coldwater High School in 1920; then graduated from the College of Emporia at Emporia in 1924. Effie was a member of the Coldwater Business and Professional Women.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, James M. McCay and Oliver P. McCay; one nephew, Richard Fleener, and one niece, Karen McCay. She is survived by: a sister, Gene Fleener of El Dorado; five nieces and nephews, Myron McCay, Jerry McCay, Phillip and Dorothy Fleener, Michelyn Williams, and Paula and Richard King; 17 great-nieces and great-nephews; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Feb. 11, 1996, at Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home in Coldwater with Rev. Faye Thurman presiding. Burial was in Crown Hill Cemetery, Coldwater.
