The Western Star, May 15, 1925.

OBITUARY - STEPHEN McCOURT

The funeral of Stephen McCourt, whose death occurred on May 6, as recorded in the Star last week, was held at the home, four miles east and one mile south of this city, on last Friday afternoon. Rev. W. T. Walker, pastor of the Presbyterian church, conducted the services. Burial was made in Crown Hill cemetery.

Mr. McCourt and his wife came to this county from near Decatur, Ill., in 1908, and located on the W. O. Barber farm east of town, where they continued to make their home. They were acquaintances of the Barbers in Illinois. Mr. McCourt had, for many years, devoted his attention to farming, and in that line he was a success. His interests were largely centered in his farming and up to Saturday before his death he talked freely with his friends about his farm work, and showed his old time interest in his various farm activities. For a number of years he had been a regular exhibitor at the Comanche-co. fairs, and won many prizes on grains.

At the time of his death, Mr. McCourt was 69 years, 9 months and 24 days of age. He was twice married. To the first union one daughter Mrs. J. F. Wicks, of Springfield, Ill., was born. On July 4, 1900, in Decatur, Ill., he was united in marriage with Miss Anna Atchison, who survives him. One sister, Mrs. Mary Stephenson of Effingham, Ill., also survives him. His parents two brothers and a sister preceded him in death. On account of sickness, the sister could not be present at the funeral.

In the passing away of Stephen McCourt, Comanche-co. loses a good citizen. He was upright in all his dealings, and, by his uniform courtesy and kindness, had won many friends throughout the eastern part of the county. To the bereaved relatives the sympathy of all is extended.
