May P. McDonald, 91, died Saturday, June 28, 1969, at the Comanche County Hospital after a long illness.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 30, 1969, at the Hatfield Funeral Home in Coldwater, Kans., with Rev. Bernard Plumb officiating. Mrs. Martha Cline and Mrs. Lena Haun sang "In the Garden" and "The Old Rugged Cross" accompanied by Mrs. Hazel McMurray, organist.

Pallbearers were Eldon Hecht, Lowell Lytle, Garth McMillen, Bob Hadley, Jack Vance, and Melvin Taylor. Interment was in Crown Hill cemetery, Coldwater, Kansas.

May P. McDonald was born January 1, 1878 at Amarillo, Texas to Andy Cameron and Margaret (Christenson) McDonald and departed this life June 28, 1969 at Coldwater at the age of 91 years, 5 months and 28 days.

It was 1894 that May came to Comanche county in a covered wagon. Here she remained, spending more than 81 years of her life. She was a member of the Coldwater Methodist church for many years.

Preceding May in death were four sisters.

Remaining members of her family include her sister, Mattie Stevenson, Garden City Kans., and brothers, Fred of Tahlequah, Okla., and Bud of Coldwater, other relatives and many friends.

Note: All of the articles which I've seen spell the surname of May P. McDonald's father as McDonold. I can't account for the discreparncy in spelling. It may have been that he spelled his name McDonald, but that local editors spelled it incorrectly in news articles. It may be that May P. also used the spelling of McDonold but that it was spelled incorrectly in her obituary. This seems most likely to me to be the case, as numerous articles about the family, including A.C. McDonold's obituary, were published when family members were living in the county, when the spelling of McDonold was used in news articles. -- Jerry Ferrin.
