William B. McKinney, 80, a retired farmer, died Wednesday morning, April 29, 1970, in the Kiowa County Hospital in Greensburg after a short illness.Funeral services were held at the Hatfield Funeral Home in Coldwater, Kans., on Friday, May 1, 1970 at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Finis G. Hodges was in charge of the services. Larry Hatfield sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Lord's Prayer," accompanied by Hazel McMurray.
Pallbearers were Phillip Hackney, Wendell Brown, John Deewall, Virgil McIntyre, Jim Herrington, and David Cary. Honorary pallbearers were Victor Allderdice, Ray Helbert, Walter Thompson, Gloyd Hadley, Dan Crowe, and Vertis Swarner.
Interment was in Crown Hill Cemetery, Coldwater, Kans.
Obituary. William B. McKinney was born August 30, 1889 in Harper county, Kansas and passed away April 29, 1970 at the Kiowa County Hospital.
The son of F. A. and India McKinney, he came with his parents to Kiowa county in 1905 to the family farm eight miles north and one mile west of Coldwater, Kans.
He was one of the first three to volunteer from Comanche county and served overseas in World War I in the Medical Corps. He also served with the Army of Occupation in Europe.
After his discharge, he returned to the farm where he spent the rest of his life.
On May 24, 1923 he was united in marriage to Mary Marie Cummins of Wichita. To this union were born two children. One daughter preceded him in death.
He was a member of the Presbyterian church, V. F. W., and the American Legion.
He leaves to mourn his passing, the wife of the home, a daughter, Mrs. Robert Blair of Greensburg, two grandchildren, Mrs. Kenneth Thomas of Emporia, Kans., and Robert Blair, Jr. Wichita, Kans., several nephews, nieces, relatives, and a host of friends.
