At 10 a.m. on Wednesday of this week occurred the death of Wm. H. McLaughlin at his home between here and Protection, and the news was received in all parts of the county with profound regret. "Uncle Mac," as he was familiarly called, had been in poor health for several months as a result of a general impairment of his system. His death therefore, was not unexpected. The faithful administrations of his wife and loved ones and the skillful attention of physicians proved unavailing in farther prolonging the sick man's life. Death came peacefully and with perfect resignation to the Divine will. Mr. McLaughlin declared some time before his death that he was fully prepared to die, having accepted Christ and His salvation.Deceased was a native of Pennsylvania. From Pennsylvania he moved to Cowley-co., Kans. In the fall of 1894 he moved with his family to Comanche-co. and had continued to make this county his home. He was widely known and universally respected throughout the county. His kindly disposition and honest, straightforward dealings had won for him many friends. A soldier in the Civil War he won a worthy record for bravery and for his devotion to the cause of the Union.
The funeral occurred at 10 a.m. on Thursday. The services were held at the family home and were in charge of Rev. C. E. Williams of the M. E. church. A large number of the neighbors and friends of the deceased followed the remains to the Coldwater cemetery where interment took place. The bereaved wife and children have the sincere sympathy of the entire community.
