The Western Star, November 18, 1893.

Death of Mrs. Metzger

Mrs. Peter Metzger, aged 74 years, died at her home near Avilla at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning.

Her affliction was peritonitis, caused by rupture of the bowels, and hardly before her sickness had become known to neighbors, she passed over the mystic river to Eden's shore. She met death without a tremor - peaceful is the thought of an abode above, where she can meet her husband, children and friends around the shrine of eternal glory. A host of friends will sympathize with relatives in the passing away of this good and aged mother.

The obsequies were held at Avilla Thursday and the remains quietly laid to rest in the cemetery of that city.

Why labor for treasures, that rust and decay,
That sparkle a moment, then vanish away.
