Tuesday morning, July 23, at about 8:30 o'clock, Marvin Mingus of Mountain Home, Arkansas, died after only a few hours illness from the effects of gastric ulcers and acute indigestion.He had been working for Hugo Mockry during harvest but Monday was taken very ill with what at first was supposed to be appendicitis. He was brought from the Mockry home to the Ramey Clinic in Protection and a complete diagnosis was as above.
He was advised to go to a hospital but delayed, hoping that the attack would pass. He took a sudden turn for the worse Monday night and died early the following morning.
As he was a stranger in the country and to Mr. Mockry, some trouble was experienced locating his relatives as he had refused to divulge information regarding himself until too late.
Companions from his home in Arkansas were finally located and furnished the information that established his identity.
He was about 24 years of age. His mother died in infancy and his father of Mountain Home alone survives him. A telegram from the latter instructed the local authorities to bury the body in the Protection cemetery.
The funeral services conducted by the Rev. Frazee of the local Church of God congregation were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 and the body was laid to rest in the local cemetery.
It was a sad death and regrettable a stranger among stranger, but when his plight became known all was done for him that was possible but the deceased had waited too long before consulting competent medical advice.
Those whom he had met since coming into the locality for harvest speak well of him as being a hard working courteous man, keeping to himself and of a retiring nature.
