Last Monday afternoon while trying to get a whip which lay on the side of an upturned fodder sled, little Ruth Moore, the four year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Will Moore who live North of town was caught and instantly killed by the terrible blow of the falling sled. The sled had been turned up against the north side of a calf pen to act as a wind break and the whip which Mr. Moore used to drive cattle with was laying on the top side of it.
It is supposed the child stepped up on the lower runner of the sled in order to reach the whip which caused the sled to become over balanced and fall carrying her under it and striking her just over the heart.
When the mother found her she was dead with the whip still in her little hand and the sled laying across her breast.
Mr. Moore was working about three miles from home at the time of the accident. And it was only by her screams over the phone that the frantic mother was able to make her neighbors understand that something terrible had happened and that she needed aid. -- Protection Post
The original article in The Protection Post also included the following:
All Protection and vicinity are grieving with these sorrowing parents, yet how beautiful it is to know God guards the gate.
We need not dread
The path these little feet must tread,
Nor fear for her who from sight
Passed through them to the realms of light.
Safe in His loving care she rests,
God knoweth best.
