H. Mack Nations

The Wilmore News, October 13, 1933.

OBITUARY

H. Mack Nations, owner and editor of the Greensburg News for the past two years, died at his home early Friday morning after being confined to his home by illness for several weeks.

Funeral services were held at the home in the southwest part of this city Saturday afternoon. Burial was in the Fairview cemetery.

The services, simple but comforting, were conducted by the Reverend Walter A. Smith, pastor of the Christian church. A man's quartet composed of Blaine Miller, Walter A. Smith, Kenneth Lenager and C. S. Loney sang "That Beautiful Land." Mr. Loney sang as a solo "Asleep in Jesus" accompanied by Mrs. C. S. Looney.

The floral tokens were cared for by Oliva and Hazel Cullins, Hildred Fedigo, Olive Kerrick, Bethel Long, and Helen Kinsall.

Mr. Nations, the son of Rev. and Mrs. J. L. Nations, was born at Winona, Mo., Jan. 11, 1898. He attended school in Mountain View and West Plains, Missouri, working as an apprentice at newspapers and printing plants before and after school. His summers and Saturday were also spent in this way. Later he was employed on papers at West Plains, and Alton, Mo., and at Baxter Springs, Kansas.

He was married to the surviving wife in December, 1917, at Brandsville, Mo., and the couple made their home at Baxter Springs, Kansas, for a few years. The family moved to Marshall, Mo., where they resided for more than ten years. Mr. Nations was city editor on the Democrat News at Marshall at the time he purchased The Greensburg News about two and one half years ago.

Mr. Nation's hobby was the playing of a violin. He was interested in church work and had been a member of the Christian church for several years. He devoted a great deal of time and enterprises of civic good. He was secretary of the I. O. O. F. lodge in Marshall for 8 years. At the time of his illness he was secretary of the Lion's club, a member of the Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the Boy Scout committee of this city.

He is survived by his wife and three children, Almeda, 14, Mack, 13, and Sara Ann, 10; three sisters, Mrs. Frank Utley, Dexter, Mo., Mrs. W. E. Boles, Wilmore, Kans., Mrs. Joe Spears, of Plevna, Kansas, two brothers, C. F. Nations of Caruthersville, Mo., and C. T. Nations of St. Louis, Mo., all of whom were present for the funeral services except Mrs. Utley who had been a guest at the home only a few days before Mr. Nation's death.
