Old timers in Comanche-co. will recall S. J. Osborne, who at one time was county attorney of this county. Mr. Osborne is now district attorney for the 11th judicial district of Texas, his home being in Breckenridge, that state. He writes the Western Star as follows:

Gentlemen:

I received today a copy of your paper which was sent to me by my good friend Cash Cade of Shawnee, Oklahoma, each of us old timers of Comanche-co. Your paper certainly brings to my memory scenes in that county 38 years ago, and set me to thinking of those pioneer days of long ago.

If my memory is correct, Will Cash and Tom Willis were the editors of the Star along about that time. I searched your columns diligently and find no familiar names except some items clipped from edition of 36 years ago. Of course I wonder how the town looks and what has become of many of those people I formerly knew so well. No doubt there has been wonderful changes and I wouldn't find much left of the pioneer days nor many people there who remember me, but after all I would like sometime to drop back and just see how the people, have improved the country, and see if I could find "my claim" located about five miles south of Avilla.

As I write this my memory recalls the big Indian scare in about 1884 and our organization going out just south of Coldwater practicing shooting, and how excited the settlers became and how they rushed into the towns. If you ever have a sure enough old settlers reunion and can get in touch with the old timers please give me notice and it will be a pleasure for me to attend and renew friendships of long ago and if you should publish this if any of them will drop me a line, I certainly will be glad to hear from them.
